Mary Eileen McDonnell is an American actress who has worked in television, film and stage. She was born on April 28th in 1952. McDonnell was awarded an Academy Award nomination for her part in Stands With A Fist in Dances with Wolves and she is also very well known for her portrayal of the President Laura Roslin in Battlestar Galactica, the President's wife on Independence Day and for her starring role in Donnie Darko, as the main character's mother.
